Sunday Tip | A Stormy Weather Survival Kit

With the east coast facing one of the worst storms {so they say} in history, evacuation routes are being planned, pantries are being stocked and travel plans are being cancelled. The estimated cost of the damage that Hurricane Sandy is projected to cause is more than many of us can fathom or will ever make in our lives. Some businesses will thrive {hotels, hardware stores, grocery stores} while others will face losses from being out of work for the days foreseen to get back to normalcy.

The unexpected event of a Hurricane like Sandy has us thinking of what could, and should, be done to prevent and prepare for unpreventable circumstances. Like a hurricane is to life, so is stormy times to business.

It’s inevitable that unexpected events will occur. It’s a natural part of life and running a business. But we can {and should} be prepared to handle what comes our way in order to ensure survival and avoid extreme loss in sales, revenues, and so much more.

In honor of Hurricane Sandy, we’ve “twisted” up a survival kit that we try to keep in place in our own organization. We’re not perfect and get hit by storms too, but it helps to be prepared so we bounce back quickly and avoid greater loss the next time around.

A Survival Kit for Success

  • Make sure all staff and contractors are properly trained and versed in brand deliverables.
  • Maintain open door communication throughout the organization.
  • Invest in infrastructure required to do business efficiently and effectively.
  • Update technology as needed to eliminate frustration and make doing business seamless.
  • Reward your team for a job well done during the storm and when it passes.

And remember…this storm too shall pass.
